Recommended Sway Control Option for Small Trailer
Question:
I have a small 13 foot trailer. Custom. 2500 lbs. I dont have any clearance for a weight distribution system but I could put a sway control bar on there. 1. I keep hearing that cam control is better than friction. Quieter. 2. Do I need sway control? 3. Is there one rated for so small a trailer? I keep seeing 24 feet or longer... thanks

Sway control is beneficial in towing conditions such as crosswinds or a large truck passing; the system will allow you to have greater stability and control than otherwise. There is a sway control bar that could work for you, the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660. This kit uses friction as control, as the cam system is for use in weight distribution systems. The Reese attaches to either side of your trailer tongue, and mounts with a sway-control bracket, either # RP26003 for Class III and IV 2" ball mounts or # RP26005 for Class II 1-1/4" ball mounts.
Please keep in mind that this system is not designed to be used with Class I hitches, and cannot be used with surge brakes. I've added links to video reviews on the Reese Sway Control for you to take a look at.
